iRail 2010 - Young Rail Engineers needed to keep rail on track
The first ever innovation Rail (iRail) event held on Thursday 18th March 2010 was hailed a success by all who took part. The full day of activity saw rail professionals team up with academia and industry bodies to support more than 70 students from Derby and Derbyshire schools in a Dragon’s Den style engineering challenge. Businesses also had the chance to network and hear from esteemed Professor Roderick Smith from Imperial College of Engineering. More>

HIGH SPEED TO BIRMINGHAM AND BEYOND
Full details of the proposed London-Birmingham high speed rail line can be seen on the Dept. for Transport website: http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/rail/pi/highspeedrail. High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd, the company established by the Government in January 2009 to advise on the development of high-speed rail services between London and Scotland, has been asked to begin detailed work on options for equivalent lines from the West Midlands to Manchester, and to Leeds via the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. This work – on a similar basis to that just completed for London-West Midlands – will develop specific route options as well as identifying full costs and benefits. -Govt News Service
