County rail experts meet with buyers from the Emirates

DERBYSHIRE rail firms have met with bosses in charge of a new multi-million-dollar rail network which will link ports and major cities in the United Arab Emirates.

More than 30 businesses from the Derby and Derbyshire Rail Forum, which represents local rail firms, attended the meet the buyer event with Etihad Rail.

Etihad is about to start work on the construction of its rail network.

Organised by government-backed organisation UK Trade and Investment, the event was held at the request of Etihad Rail.

Senior managers from the new railway emphasised that they were looking for a range of railway products, skills and services, ranging from rolling stock, track and signalling through to freight and passenger operations specialists.

Firms that attended included Bombardier, Balfour Beatty Rail, Datum, DeltaRail, Garrandale, Interfleet Technology and Mott MacDonald.

Rail Forum chairman Colin Walton said: "Our members can literally build a fully functioning new railway anywhere in the world, so it is no surprise that international buyers from across the world are beating a path to our door."
